Why Coffee & A Chat Is A Great First Meetup

Choosing the venue of your first date doesn’t need to be stressful. Why not simply go with the time-honored tradition of coffee and a chat? Coffee meetups are fantastic for a nice, relaxing conversation with a new person.  Here’s why we think it’s such a good choice:

1.     It’s a social environment.

Some people may feel uncomfortable meeting up for the first time in a very intimate setting. Plus, the more comfortable and casual environment that you choose, the more likely you will be to make a connection on your first date.

2.     You can adjust the length of the date accordingly.

If you are on a dinner date with someone at a restaurant, then you will be committed to at least 60-90 minutes with the person. If you are not attracted to the person or simply uncomfortable, this can be a disaster! On the other hand, you can meet up for coffee and be out the door in 30 minutes. Likewise, if the two of you are getting along well then you can extend the meeting up to 60 or so minutes.

3.     Its affordable

A flat white won’t break the bank.  Coffee meetups allow you to get to know someone without spending an extravagant amount of money.

4.     There are plenty of conversation starters.

Most cafés and coffee shops will have art on the walls, music playing and a wide variety of characters coming in and out as they grab their caffeine fix. This can be great material for your conversation.

For example, if they are playing music that you like, you can comment on it and then find out about your date’s musical tastes. Cafés and coffee shops have plenty of interesting conversation starters that will keep you from experiencing an awkward silence on your first date.

5.    A sober date is usually a more memorable one.

Going out for cocktails on a first date can be fun, but there is something to be said for being sober the first time that you meet. There’s no reason why you cannot enjoy an alcoholic drink on a future date, but going on a coffee date at first can prevent unfortunate mishaps or misunderstandings.

6.     The caffeine can help you focus on your date.

Caffeine is a stimulant that makes you more alert and awake. Nobody wants to have a date with someone who is sluggish or distracted!  Just one cup of regular coffee might be all you need to raise the tempo of your conversation and keep you both more engaged.

There are dozens of reasons why meeting for coffee can be the best option for your first date. You can always enjoy a more elaborate or extravagant date in the future, but if you want a quick and easy solution then you can’t go wrong with coffee and a chat!
